complexity behind aviation security and the amount of work that goes into it. He complimented IFALPA and
the SEC Committee for being a key part of this security chain.
The main items and matters of security concern addressed during the actual meeting were drones being
used to disrupt or endanger airport operations, Cyber threats, Laser attacks, flights into and over conflict
zones, security screening and enhanced electronic access control systems to assess crew identity. The sub-
ject of Human Trafficking was also discussed at length and was made a permanent agenda item of the Com-
mittee, in an effort to raise the awareness of the pilot community on this worrying issue.
Four new Position Papers were finalized on ‘Passenger flights carrying deportees’, ‘Screening of persons
other than passengers’, ‘Air Cargo Security’ and ‘Human Trafficking’. The existing IFALPA Position Papers on
‘Onboard protection against fire and smoke’ and ‘Transport of passengers subjected to judicial or adminis-
trative proceedings’ were also updated. Finally, the Committee elected two new Vice-Chairs: Captain Wolf-
gang Koch from US ALPA and Captain Kumar P from ALPA Singapore.
The 2020 SEC Committee meeting is planned for November in Fukuoka, Japan, at the kind invitation of ALPA
Japan. Both the Finnish Pilots Association and ALPA Singapore have already offered to host the 2021 meet-
ing.
